TEH LAM SAM
Lam Sam is currently the Managing Director of Acutest Systems (M) Sdn Bhd, a company that was formerly known as the Practitioners Laboratory Sdn Bhd that was involved in the pioneering of point-of-care testing market since 1980. Acutest provides a one-stop solution to customers who are mostly private medical practitioners, private and public hospitals’ laboratories and the related medical health centres and institutions.
Lam Sam began his career in 1970 with the former Glaxo Malaysia, where he rose from the position of Medical Representative to Senior Sales Executive.
Lam Sam was the pioneer Managing Director of the former Boehringer Mannheim which is still the market leader in diabetes care, point-of-care and clinical diagnostics under the new owners Roche Diagnostics. Lam Sam has also held senior positions as Regional Manager, Decentralised Diagnostics, Far East Region and Business Development Director, Asia Pacific Region during his professional career in Boehringer.
Lam Sam was the founding Secretary of Malaysian Diabetes Association and was instrumental in pioneering structured diabetes education in both Singapore and Malaysia. He was one of the prime movers in benchmarking diabetic patient care standards in Malaysia that included the adoption of the first NIDDM Treatment Consensus. This Treatment Consensus was later endorsed by the Ministry of Health Malaysia and Academy of Medicine Malaysia.
Similarly, with the co-operation of Malaysian Societies of Pathologists and Singapore Clinical Biochemistry Society, Lam Sam successfully introduced the first Annual Boehringer Mannheim Awards for outstanding work by clinical biochemists and medical technologists.
Holding also a MBA (Distinction) degree from the United Kingdom, Lam Sam’s astute inside of the bio-medic industry in the region allows him to assess the market of any bio-related products or services at ease.
